Unveiling Murano Glass’ Hidden Power in Venice

Take a trip to Venice Glass Week and be inspired.

A look at Venice Glass Week 2026

There are places where inspiration seems to be everywhere you look.

Venice is certainly one of them.

During The Venice Glass Week, you begin to see the city a little differently.

Rather than just canals, bridges, and old buildings, you notice the glass in windows, exhibitions, workshops, and galleries.

Murano Beads appear in the hands of makers, adding a local highlight.

The 2026 edition was particularly special because it marked the 10th anniversary of The Venice Glass Week. Additionally, from September 12–20, Venice, Murano and Mestre hosted more than 200 events. These events celebrated glass through exhibitions, installations, demonstrations, workshops, talks and guided tours.

I spent some time exploring this year’s events, and as someone who is especially interested in beads, I naturally found myself looking beyond the finished pieces to the materials and techniques behind them.

And that is what I wanted to share with you.

Where the beads begin

One of my favorite sights was something that might seem fairly ordinary if you don’t work with glass.

Glass rods.

Lots and lots of glass rods.

But when you work with beads, a collection like this is anything but ordinary.

There are colors everywhere — transparent, opaque, delicate pastels, intense blues and reds.

Additionally, greens, yellows, blacks, and whites are difficult to describe, yet they are immediately recognizable once you see them.

And then there are the shapes.

Some rods are straight and orderly. Others have been bent, pulled or worked in some way before they’ve even become part of a bead.

Looking at them reminded me that a finished Venetian bead is really only the end of a much longer story.

First there is the glass.

Then there is the heat.

The tools.

The technique.

And, perhaps most importantly, the person making it.

The beauty of the workbench

I could happily spend far too much time looking at a glassmaker’s workbench.

There is something wonderful about seeing the evidence of the process rather than just the finished object.

Tools sitting where they were last used.

Small pieces of glass waiting to be incorporated into something else.

Containers full of color.

And everywhere, possibilities.

This is one of the things I love about glassmaking.

There is an incredible amount of skill involved, but there is also experimentation.

A beadmaker starts with an idea, but the glass has a say in what happens next.

The temperature changes.

The colors react.

The shape evolves.

And sometimes the little surprise that wasn’t planned becomes the best part.

Venice Glass Week: looking at glass from every direction

One of the wonderful things about Venice Glass Week is that it isn’t simply a series of exhibitions.

The program brings together exhibitions and installations with demonstrations, workshops, guided tours, talks and other events. The 2026 program stretched across Venice, Murano and Mestre.

There was plenty for anyone interested in the history of glass.

It covers 1948–1958 Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale.

Additionally, LE STANZE DEL VETRO hosted an exhibition on the period’s importance for Murano glass and the Biennale.

Nevertheless, there was also a strong focus on what is happening now.

That balance is important.

Venetian glass has an extraordinary history, but it isn’t simply something preserved in a museum.

Artists and glassmakers are continuing to experiment with it, reinterpret it and find new ways to work with an old material.

And then there are the beads

Of course, this is the part that really inspires me.

One of the 2026 events was Glass Beads from Around the World, an exhibition in Mestre featuring finalist beads from previous editions of Your Bead for Venice. The exhibition brings together work by glass bead artists from around the world who have been inspired by Venetian techniques and traditions.

Check out the finalist: https://www.yourbeadforvenice.org/finalists-2026/

I love the idea behind this.

Venetian beadmaking is a very specific tradition, rooted in a particular place and history — but its influence doesn’t stop at the edge of the Venetian lagoon.

Beadmakers around the world have learned from these techniques, adapted them and made them their own.

And that brings us to one of the projects I was especially happy to see connected with Venice Glass Week.

Your Bead for Venice

Your Bead for Venice is an international competition celebrating Venetian glass beadmaking and the artists who continue to be inspired by it.

The 2026 competition invited beadmakers around the world to submit a bead inspired by Venetian beads or Venetian glass techniques. The finalists’ work is being exhibited during Venice Glass Week.

There is something particularly nice about the idea of one bead carrying a connection to Venice.

It doesn’t have to be an exact reproduction of an historic bead.

It can be a new interpretation.

A different color combination.

A familiar technique used in a new way.

A personal response to Venetian glass.

In fact, the 2026 competition introduced a special Venetian Star prize recognizing a bead that most closely reflects traditional Venetian design, techniques and Venetian glass. The judging also considered three areas: connection with Venice, quality of the bead and technique used.

And that’s really what makes the project interesting to me.

Tradition doesn’t have to mean standing still.

Ultimate Fall 2026 Color Inspiration: Murano Glass Beads

Fall/Winter 2026 Jewelry Colors: A Murano Glass Bead Guide

Taupe and topaz create a warm, versatile color story inspired by natural stone, amber light and the softly weathered architecture of Venice. Taupe provides a calm, earthy neutral, while transparent topaz adds golden-brown depth and warmth. In Murano glass, these colors pair beautifully with 24kt gold foil, avventurina, ivory, chocolate brown and rich autumn reds.

Rooted in nature yet distinctly modern, Burnt Olive, Green Envy, and Acacia create a sophisticated progression of greens for Fall 2026. Burnt Olive brings an earthy, grounded depth with its muted olive undertones, while Green Envy introduces a fresher, more energetic yellow-green. Acacia completes the palette with a bright, luminous chartreuse that adds an unexpected spark. Together, these shades move beautifully from subdued and organic to vivid and contemporary, making them especially striking when translated into Murano Glass, where transparent color, gold foil, and avventurina can add even greater depth and brilliance.

Vibrant yet beautifully feminine, Festival Fuchsia and Foxglove bring warmth and energy to the Fall 2026 palette. Festival Fuchsia is bold, saturated, and exuberant—a rich jewel-like pink that immediately commands attention. Foxglove softens the story with a dusty, romantic rose pink that feels elegant and refined. Together, they create a wonderful balance of dramatic color and gentle sophistication, especially beautiful in Murano Glass where transparent pinks, gold foil, silver foil, and delicate Fiorato details can bring these shades to life.

Make the Fall 2026 Colors Your Own

These Murano Glass beads are just a few examples of how you can bring the colors of Fall 2026 into your jewelry designs. Use them as inspiration rather than rules—mix the season’s rich earth tones, sophisticated greens, vibrant pinks, ocean-inspired blues and warm neutrals with beads you already love. Add the shimmer of 24kt gold foil, sterling silver foil or avventurina, introduce the delicate flowers of Fiorato and Millefiori, or combine transparent and opaque glass for greater depth and contrast. With thousands of colors, shapes and styles of authentic Murano Glass to choose from, the possibilities extend far beyond the examples shown here. Choose the colors that speak to you, experiment with unexpected combinations, and make the Fall 2026 palette entirely your own.

Behind the Clicks: The Unseen Fight Small Businesses Face on Amazon, Etsy, and Google

Empowering Creativity: How Small Businesses in Vertical Markets Support Artists and Strengthen Communities

Authentic artistry risks being overshadowed by large-scale corporations and unseen online, dwarfed by the Amazons, the Googles and visibility certain only by the dollars spent. And online stores such as Temu aggressively use the terms “Murano Glass” with impunity, even going so far as to use “VenetianBeadShop” in their Google Ads. Yet, nestled within the fabric of local economies lies a powerful force that keeps creativity, craftsmanship, and culture alive — small businesses dedicated to this market focused on artists.

A vertical market—one that specializes in serving a niche industry—offers unique opportunities for artisans to thrive. Whether it’s handcrafted jewelry, bespoke furniture, ceramics, or glass art, these specialized businesses act as a vital bridge between independent artists and customers who value authenticity, quality, and tradition.

How Vertical Market Small Businesses Champion Artists

Venice inspires art just from the everyday scenes enhanced by light and water.

Unlike generic retail giants, small businesses operating within a vertical market understand the nuances of the craft they represent. They don’t just sell products-they curate stories, preserve heritage, and foster relationships with artisans. As we say here at VenetianBeadShop, we don’t sell beads, we sell Romance, the Romance of Venice. We sell history, the history of glass making first in Venice and then moved to Murano.

  1. Direct Support to Artists We work closely with individual artists, offering fair compensation, consistent large orders, and exposure that artists struggle to secure on their own. This partnership allows artists to focus on what they do best, creating without being overwhelmed by the challenges of marketing, logistics, or international sales.
  2. Preserving Traditional Craftsmanship Murano glassmaking is rooted in centuries-old traditions. Vertical market businesses ensure these art forms continue to flourish by providing sustainable demand and educating consumers about the value behind each handmade piece. VenetianBeadShop provides DIY projects complete with printable instructions to aid our customers in this craft.
  3. Platform for Unique, Handcrafted Goods In a world saturated with identical, mass-produced items, vertical market businesses highlight the beauty of one-of-a-kind creations. They help customers appreciate that behind every product is a human story – a skilled artist, a cultural tradition, and hours of dedicated craftsmanship. We have been online since 1998 first as Global Gift Shop on Yahoo Stores and then as VenetianBeadShop.com. We have participated in countless shows across the US, in New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Tucson, Las Vegas, Milwaukee and more. The quality of our beads and jewelry shine brightly in shows against mass produced items and shows convert to life-time customers.

Strengthening Communities Through Art

Basi Beads featuring 24k Gold Foil with tiny hand painted flowers and slices of Millefiori

The impact of supporting artists extends far beyond the individual creator. Small businesses focused on artisan markets play a crucial role in enriching local and global communities:

  1. Economic Impact By sourcing directly from artists, these businesses keep money flowing into local economies—whether that’s a glassblower in Murano, a painter in New Mexico, or a ceramicist in North Carolina. This fosters economic resilience and creates a ripple effect of opportunity within artisan communities.
  2. Cultural Exchange & Preservation Every handcrafted item carries cultural significance. Small businesses serve as custodians of these traditions, introducing customers to global artistry while helping preserve endangered crafts for future generations.

Our Role: Bridging Artistry and Appreciation

At VenetianBeadShop we are proud to be part of this vertical market that champions artists and uplifts communities. We don’t see ourselves merely as retailers we are partners in creativity, advocates for tradition, and storytellers for the artisans we work with. We create new beads inspired by artist, such as Klimt, Monet, or the amazing Palazzo along the Grand Canal such as Ca’d’Oro whose façade was covered in real gold. We use 24kt Gold Foil and .925 Sterling Silver to enhance our beads.

By connecting customers to authentic, handcrafted pieces, we ensure that:

  • Artists are able to make a living doing what they love. Many of our artists are 2nd and 3rd generation.
  • Customers experience the joy of owning something truly unique and meaningful.
  • Communities — both local and international — benefit from sustainable, culturally rich commerce.

Why It Matters

In supporting small businesses like ours, customers aren’t just making a purchase — they’re making a difference. They’re voting for craftsmanship over mass production, tradition over trend, and human connection over corporate anonymity.

As we continue to grow within our niche, we remain committed to empowering artists, preserving heritage, and enriching communities through the beauty of handmade art.

Together, we can ensure that creativity continues to flourish — one piece at a time.

How VenetianBeadShop, Murano Artisans, and Small Businesses Create a Community of Creativity

In a world dominated by mass production and corporate giants, the true value of handmade artistry can sometimes be overlooked. But at VenetianBeadShop, we believe in something far more meaningful — a business built on collaboration, craftsmanship, and community.

As a small business operating in the vertical market of artisan-made products, we proudly work hand-in-hand with our talented bead makers in Murano and Venice, supporting not only centuries-old traditions but also the families and futures of the artisans behind every bead.

Supporting Artisans: More Than Just Business – It’s Family

Our relationship with Murano’s glassmakers goes beyond transactions — it’s a partnership rooted in respect and mutual success. Each bead we offer is a testament to the skill passed down through generations of Venetian artisans. But behind the shimmering glass and intricate designs lies something even more important: …People.

By collaborating directly with our bead makers, we help sustain numerous families. Every order placed contributes to everyday life in Venice — from sending children to school, buying birthday presents, to ensuring these artisans can continue doing what they love. It’s not just about preserving a craft; it’s about enriching lives and keeping vibrant communities thriving on the islands of Murano and Venice.

Empowering Our Customers: Creativity That Pays Forward

The beauty of this vertical market is how far its impact reaches. Once these exquisite, handmade beads arrive at VenetianBeadShop, they begin a new journey — into the hands of our customers, who transform them into unique pieces of jewelry.

Our customers — many of whom are independent artists, hobbyists, or small business owners themselves — take these authentic Murano Glass beads and create jewelry that tells a story. Whether they’re selling at local craft fairs, boutiques, or online shops, they’re turning creativity into opportunity.

For many, this isn’t just a passion project. The jewelry they craft and sell might:

  • Pay for their child’s dance lessons.
  • Cover the cost of baseball camp.
  • Help with family expenses or fund a well-deserved vacation.
  • Or simply bring the satisfaction of turning artistry into income.

It’s a win-win, all the way through the market — from the glass furnaces of Murano to craft tables across the world.

Spreading Joy Through Handmade Beauty

The impact doesn’t stop there. Each piece of handmade jewelry our customers create carries forward the legacy of Murano artistry. When someone buys or receives that jewelry as a gift, they’re not just getting a beautiful accessory – they’re receiving a piece of history, tradition, and heartfelt craftsmanship.

Gold Foil, Silver Foil and White Gold Foil Round Murano Glass Beads

It’s this chain – from artisan, to small business, to creator, to customer –  that makes what we do at VenetianBeadShop so special.

Why Markets Like Ours Matter

Large corporations may dominate the headlines, but it’s small businesses within niche vertical markets that fuel creativity, preserve culture, and foster community connections. At VenetianBeadShop, we’re proud to be part of this ecosystem:

  • We support artisans and keep traditional crafts alive.
  • We empower creators to build businesses and express themselves through handmade jewelry.
  • We help spread joy and beauty to those who wear or gift these creations.

Every bead has a story. Every piece of jewelry continues that story. And every purchase supports real people — from Venetian artisans to families in communities across the globe. As we say here at VenetianBeadShop, we don’t sell beads, we sell romance, we sell history, we sell creativity.

Together, We Keep Artistry Alive

When you choose to buy from a small business like VenetianBeadShop, you’re not just buying a product — you’re investing in a network of creativity and human connection.

You’re helping a Murano glassmaker keep his furnace burning.
You’re giving a jewelry maker the tools to grow her craft business.
You’re bringing joy to someone who cherishes a handmade gift.

That’s the power of supporting artisan vertical markets. It’s a beautiful cycle — one we’re honored to be part of, and one that continues to thrive thanks to customers who believe in the value of handmade.

Let’s keep this chain of creativity, community, and craftsmanship strong — one bead at a time.

Finding Inspiration: How Homo Faber Sparked Our New Venetian Bead Designs

The journey begins with a vaporetto ride to the Homo Faber exhibits in Venice, sparking inspiration for a new collection of Murano glass beads. Influenced by various artistic styles, colors, and textures, beadmakers creatively translate these ideas into unique designs that celebrate both tradition and innovation. Each bead reflects Venice’s rich craftsmanship.

It all begins with a vaporetto ride. Sometimes, the adventure starts with wading through high water just to leave the apartment. But the allure of the Homo Faber exhibits on the island of San Giorgio makes it all worthwhile. These incredible showcases of artistry spark boundless inspiration. So, off we went—with two of our beadmakers and a camera—to capture the magic.

In the world of Murano Glass, creativity is a dance between tradition and innovation, and for our studio, inspiration comes from everywhere. Our latest collection of beads owes its origin to a remarkable journey—one that started at the Homo Faber exhibit in Venice, where craftsmanship, artistry, and imagination collide.

A Visit to Homo Faber: The Spark of Creativity

Walking through the Homo Faber exhibit was like stepping into a living museum of art and tradition. Each room displayed breathtaking works from artisans around the world, from intricate textiles to finely crafted ceramics and, of course, extraordinary glassworks. What captivated us most were the colors, textures, and patterns that seemed to speak directly to the heart of Murano’s glassmaking heritage.

As we explored, we were struck by the diversity of designs—soft, ethereal hues juxtaposed with bold, geometric patterns, and textures that mimicked natural elements like woodgrain or rippling water. These visual treasures stirred something in us, and we knew instantly that these inspirations would breathe new life into our bead designs.

Our first spark of inspiration came from the mesmerizing work of artist Tuesday Riddell, who masterfully uses the Japanese lacquer technique. Her collection is nothing short of breathtaking—take a moment to explore her artistry for yourself. Tuesday Riddell

We were captivated by the striking interplay of black and gold, tones we frequently feature in our Venetian beads. Inspired by this elegant combination, our beadmakers were immediately motivated to craft new designs, bringing their own creative vision to life. Below are some of our bead maker’s first tries. I feel incredibly fortunate to have bead makers who can bring our ideas to life. I’m constantly amazed by their ability to craft entirely new and unique designs using the same tools, glass canes, and millefiori techniques that have been cherished for centuries.

From Vision to Reality: Working with Our Beadmaker

Back in the studio, they began translating these inspirations into tangible designs with the help of our incredible beadmaker. Armed with a treasure trove of photos, detailed sketches, and notes from our time at Homo Faber. They reviewed the patterns, colors, and textures that had spoken to us the most.

Designs: Abstract lines, geometric forms, and organic swirls all made their way into our sketches. Every detail was considered to ensure that the final product would not only look beautiful but also feel authentic to Murano’s legacy.

Colors: From the soft pastels of Venetian sunsets to the rich jewel tones of antique glass mosaics, we carefully selected a palette that reflected both the timelessness of Murano traditions and the bold innovation of modern design.

Textures: Many of our new beads feature layers—transparent glass over opaque bases or flecks of avventurina for sparkle and depth—echoing the intricate layering techniques we saw at the exhibit.

This collection is just the beginning as we explore new colors and expand on the inspiring themes from Homo Faber. We even had the privilege of getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the design processes of legendary houses like Cartier, Mercier, and Van Cleef & Arpels—a rare and fascinating experience that continues to fuel our creativity. A look at the sketch book reveals their process so similar to ours.

After countless hours of experimentation and collaboration, our beadmaker brought the sketches to life. The result is a collection of beads that celebrate the beauty of Murano’s craftsmanship while nodding to the innovative spirit we saw at Homo Faber. Each bead tells a story: the story of Venice, of our studio, and of the creative journey that began with a single spark of inspiration.

Whether it’s a delicate pink bead with avventurina shimmer or a bold black-and-gold design inspired by the exhibit’s contemporary installations, these beads are a testament to the power of collaboration and the endless wellspring of inspiration that is Venice.

An Invitation to Create

As we launch this collection, we’re excited to share these designs with you. We hope they inspire your own creations, just as Homo Faber inspired us. Each bead is a tiny piece of Venice—a city where artistry is woven into every canal and calle.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, we keep the traditions of Murano alive, one bead at a time.

Basilica Beads – How they are made.

When we were working with our bead maker, we made this short video. It gives you some idea of the steps involved in making a complicated bead like this. But even before she sits down to turn on the “canello” the torch used in Murano, she has already assembled the fragments of mosaic canes, color fragments and the 24kt gold foil used on the bead. And she has preheated these fragments so they do not shock the base bead when they are attached. The slices of millefiori are added individually. The tool attached to the cane in the beginning is just a way to use even the short pieces of cane. The tools used to create the shape are made by a tool maker in Murano who is following in his father’s footsteps and without whom, we would be lost.

Making our Basilica Murano Glass Beads

Why are they called Basilica? If you have ever been to Piazza San Marco just looking at the mosaics above the huge doors will give you a clue. And once you enter into the Basilica San Marco, taking a look at the incredible gold and mosaic work on the domes you can definitely see the similarities.

Basilica San Marco with over 8,000 of Meters of Mosaics

The gold is exterior on these fabulous beads and the colors are perfect for the summer season. We made a bracelet with the blues and the design instructions are free.

EU Shipping and Vat Info

Hooray! We have finally been successful in obtaining the necessary VAT number to once again ship to the EU. That was a major undertaking that I am sure caused me more grey hair. We can ship packages values at under €150 through our international parcel consolidator.

HOW IT WORKS:

Our website will now charge VAT at the rate in your EU country. It will be displayed as you checkout. VAT is also charged on shipping. If you have a VAT # already, be sure to send to us. And we will use that number in our shipments.

NOTE: VAT will show as a separate line called “Taxes” As we do not include any taxes in the price of an item which is how the US works. And this is how we must report to your country’s tax agency. It will always be a separate line item at the end of your order.

We collect and submit the VAT directly to your country. This is accomplished for us by a third party known as an IOSS which is authorized by the EU. Below are the rates as of 9-24-21.

PACKAGES OVER €150 – HOW IT WORKS:

Packages with a value over the €150 cannot be shipped via our international parcel consolidator. We can ship USPS Priority Mail International or through various carriers such as FedEX, DHL, or UPS. The VAT will be collected by these carriers before delivery.

In the event that your order is over the €150, and that our website adds VAT to the order. You will not be charged by us. As most of you know, we only get an authorization at the time of the order, but we will process your credit card for only the amount of the order plus the shipping, not including the VAT.

GOOD NEWS:

The good news is that we can once again use our international parcel consolidator for much more advantageous shipping rates. Shipping is of course, based on the weight of the parcel. Here is the international parcel shipping costs to Europe (Other rates apply to the UK, Australia and other Pacific Countries)

Shipping Rate in US $$ and based on US – Weight in Pounds. 16 Ounces = 1 Pound

I am sure we will have some hiccups as we learn more about this and we will make adjustments and corrections as we need to.

I am hoping we can resolve the UK quickly. We are awaiting registration of our VAT # in the UK. We’ll keep you posted.

I am just happy that we can once again ship to all our valued customers in the EU.

UK Customers and Brexit – How it affects you

To answer all your questions on why shipping to the UK from VenetianBeadShop and why our wonderfully low shipping costs to you have disappeared. It’s all about the UK and Brexit and your exit from the European Union.
But a question for UK Shoppers, are you willing to pay the VAT and pay against the total of your order? Let us hear from you. We cannot put a lower value on your order and we would be required to collect the ~20% VAT before we ship.

Starting January 1, 2021, shipping to the UK is becoming more complex due to Brexit.  (This information is from Stamps.com a provider of shipping for the US. The link to this info is: https://blog.stamps.com/2020/12/22/shipping-from-the-u-s-to-uk-with-2021-vat-rules/)
If you’re an online retailer shipping products from the U.S. to the United Kingdom (UK), you will need to change your fulfillment process starting January 1, 2021. The UK has left the European Union trading relationship and the country has implemented new rules for goods and services to be imported into the UK. Brexit Background – UK Exits the European Union Trade Agreement The UK officially left the European Union on January 31, 2020, a process that is commonly called “Brexit.” This announcement triggered a “transition period,” where trade would continue as is with no changes to UK Value-Added Tax (VAT) rules, treatment of transactions or filings through December 31, 2020.
Starting on January 1, 2021, all UK imports and exports will fall under the World Trade Organization (WTO) terms, which requires changes to many fulfillment processes for U.S. e-commerce parcel deliveries to the UK. Changes for E-commerce Orders Being Delivered to UK: Under the World Trade Order terms, there are four important changes occurring for products being shipped to the UK from the U.S. (along with all countries):
#1 Register for VAT and Collect VAT Fees: As a U.S. online retailer, you will now be required to register for a VAT number and create an online account from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in order to deliver e-commerce orders into the UK. Once you have your VAT number, you will be required to collect all VAT fees from your buyers at time of product purchase. This VAT fee was previously being completed when a parcel entered the UK, typically with the buyer having to pay VAT to release the package from Customs. The new WTO rules pushes that VT tax collection burden to the online retailer in the U.S. who is exporting the product to the UK. VAT rates for collection depend on the product price:
 A) Most Goods and Services valued UNDER £135 have a 20% VAT Rate Goods and services shipped to the UK with a value between £0.01 and £135 (between $1 and approximately $180 USD) will incur VAT fee of 20% of the product price (not including shipping fees). U.S. online retailers selling products to UK buyers are require to collect this 20% VAT fee at the time of sale. Online retailers will be responsible to pay all VAT collected to HMRC every three months.
 B) VAT for Goods and Services valued OVER £135 All shipments with goods and services valued higher than £135 (approximately $180 USD) will be subject to the current VAT procedures, which state VAT is payable as the parcels are being imported into the UK. These types of packages are often cleared through customs via parcel consolidators and all applicable duties and VAT will be paid to HMRC directly by the parcel consolidator, who then normally invoices the online retailer.
#2 Make Quarterly VAT Return Payments to HMRC: Online retailers must report and pay the VAT Return (taxes) collected from their online sales each quarter to HMRC. You can find your actual deadline inside your VAT online account, but in general the deadline for HMRC’s bank to receive payment is one calendar month plus 7 days after the end of the accounting period (annual quarter). If your VAT Return payment is late, you could be liable for additional late fees. To submit your VAT Return, you can use HMRC’s free online service or one of the many commercial accounting software platforms that HMRC has partnered with. The approved software list includes many popular solutions such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Business Cloud and SAP. Your quarterly VAT Return should include key data points for your UK sales such as: · Total sales and purchases for your account (only orders delivered to UK) · The amount of VAT you owe from your UK sales · The amount of VAT you can reclaim (i.e. order returns, product defects) · The amount of VAT refund due from HRMC
#3 More Info Required in Customs Documents: All parcel shipments into the UK will be subject to customs clearance and inspections, which could add significant delays for parcels being delivered to the buyer. U.S. online retailers shipping goods or services into the UK will need to provide import or export declarations to UK Customs. A customs invoice will be required for each parcel that shows UK VAT along with the product price in order for the parcel to be released out of customs.
#4 Elimination of the Low Value Consignment Relief: In addition to implementing the WTO trade terms, the UK is removing Low Value Consignment Relief (LVCR) – a rule that allowed good and products from outside the EU that had a value of £15 or less (estimated $20) to be tax exempt. In 2021, those products will now be subject to the 20% VAT rate. The UK is taking these actions to ensure that goods and services from outside the UK are treated in the same manner as products within the country, so as UK businesses are not disadvantaged by competition from VAT free imports.
Failure to adhere to these new UK Customs procedures could result in:  · Parcels being refused entry into the UK by customs  · Parcels being returned to sender (including return shipping fees depending on carrier used)  · Parcels and products being destroyed  · Parcels incurring major delays in being delivered to buyer  · Parcels generating additional shipping and/or customs fees, or penalties
Required actions to sell and ship products into the UK in 2021 Starting January 1, 2021, online retailers selling goods or services to UK buyers will be required to register their business with the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to obtain a VAT number.

The go-to spring color palette for your spring beading projects

Spring means the onset of new life on earth. It’s all about colorful and beautiful flowers, sunny surroundings, lush greenery, warmth, and a hue of colors around. The spring color palette is in full bloom in nature and so should be in your work.

Colors affect the way we perceive things. They affect our mood. They also act as a stimulus to the psychology with which we see everyday things. The warmth, coziness, and liveliness that spring brings in one’s life should be reflected in your next beading project of the spring.

Whether you wear your creations yourself, are making some for a project, or are even making for your business, be aware of the latest and most sought-after spring color palette. The shades of various spring colors will help you bring in an ushering freshness in your work.

Knowledge of these colors will help you determine the impact they will leave when someone sees them. It will also help you bring in a more vivid and deeper feel to the creations. So let’s have a look at some of the possible spring colors that you can work around with.

1. Sunshine yellow

It is considered a color of hope. The color yellow projects happiness, warmth, a sense of sheer likability, and enthusiasm. It greatly impacts the psyche when someone sees it or even wears it.

Being a pretty warm color, it can be paired well with both dark and neutrals like gray, black, orange, red, green, beige, pastels, etc. It not only makes one think of the warmth of the sun but the playfulness of daffodils and freesias as well. Let this playfulness be well depicted in your work as well.

2. Earthy green

Green, staple to the spring, is all about rejuvenation and newness. After a long winter and autumn, the one color that dominates the entire nature is green. It’s not specific to a particular plant, tree, or flower. Instead, it is everywhere.

It is believed that the color green has a soothing, calming, refreshing, and full-of-life effect when seen once. That’s the reason why any spring color palette is incomplete without a shade of green. Whether dark or light, pale or vibrant, green has to be a shade you need to include in your beading creations.

3. Pumpkin orange

This earthy color tone has a tad chic and a rather resplendent amber-brown undertone to it. This makes it a great choice for the spring color palette. It not only brings a sense of contrast when paired with other colors but is also royal and noble in its high-end vibe. This gingery color exudes warmth and confidence while still being sophisticated and elegant in its own way!

4. Cherry red

It’s not just the roses that make one fall with the color red. It is the color’s grace and vivaciousness that induces a sense of fieriness, dominance, glory, and royalty. It acts as a perfect color-blocking hue when paired with pastels or neutrals.

Yet another bright color in the spring color palette, red, helps with enhanced confidence and power when seen and worn. There’s no doubt that red is not meant for all! You need to feel confident to pull off the color well.

5. Subtlety with white

Though a color of the winters, this pure and innocence-invoking color gives a sense of cleanliness and hygiene if incorporated well. White also stands for peace and harmony. So, if your work is a reflection of any of these, white or its various shades have to be a part of your spring color palette.

6. Royal lavender

Being a mix of the calming blue and fiery red, purple is considered a color of the royals. It might not be seen much during the spring, but you can do justice to it! Purple brings a sense of opulence and has a calming effect, just like the green. If used well, it can help achieve a dreamy and flowy, yet soothing and futuristic appeal. Make your pieces distinct and stand out with a color not experimented with much when constructing jewelry.

7. Pinky pink

Often associated with feminism, pink and its bold counterpart, magenta have emerged as genderless colors in the 21st century. This go-getter hue has a more conversational and wacky aesthetic to it making it more eye-appealing and attractive. One can go as creative as possible with this color. Using multiple shades of it can help convey different meanings. Like the lighter shades of it can make the person look and feel shy and introverted. While the darker and more vibrant shades can help radiate confidence and boldness.

Choose what you want to convey with the designs and let it all out.

8. Sky blue

The color of the sky, blue has a more calming effect. But with its navy blue counterpart looks and feels royal at the same time. Turquoise, having a bluish-green color, gives more structure and flow to the pieces. The entire range of colors belonging to blue makes one feel more connected to nature and free just the way birds are in the sky or fishes are in the water.

Note: Whatever colors you choose to go with, ensure that they blend with each other well. Every color combination should complement each other to stand out and also to make a statement. Try getting out of your comfort zone and experiment with colors that you have never worked with before.

Market Places, The Good, The Bad and the downright Ugly – AKA Brenda rants!!

Even our little ones had their own “store”

Market Places, The Good, The Bad and the downright Ugly
We get this question often “Where Can I sell my Jewelry?”
There is no easy answer and during the days of COVID19, many of the absolutely best places like Festivals, Home Jewelry events or local markets have been shut down..

Face-to-face

The absolutely best place to sell the creations you have dreamed up, beaded up, and fell in love with during the process is:

In PersonFace-to-face with the customer is the best way. Even our smallest bead sellers know the value of face-to-face as they ran their own bead shop inside our warehouse for a couple of years.
We had one customer who always wore multiple pieces on flights (again not available today). She would sell the jewelry right off her body to flight attendants, people sitting near her and of course giving our her card to direct them to her website.
Face-to-face, you can bring your creations to life as you talk about them, share your enthusiasm and give a bit of a history lesson. As I had said many times, we are not selling glass beads, we are selling romance, the history of Venice, the story of the beads, the beauty of the design and the resilient people who live on the islands.
Etsy Well for me Etsy is like a needy lover or friend. Etsy needs constant feeding, constant re-listing. True it has a good following and had a good reputation of truly unique, handmade goods……But over the years, it appears to have fallen victim to the corporate greed and bottom line numbers which has allowed a deluge of mass produced goods. We abandoned this marketplace years ago for its needy feeding habits. Maybe you can comment on why you like or do not like Etsy.
Amazon – Talk about corporate greed! Amazon has more than 350 million products available online. Of those some 12 million are sold directly by Amazon – which of course creates direct competition to the market place sellers like you and me. And the percentages that they take can range up to almost 30% on lower priced items. There is no human you can ever find to discuss any issue. It is all run by AI. In fact, it you allow them, they will price your items for you using AI. Somehow I don’t see me beading late at night to have an artificial intelligence algorithm decide the price of my handmade creations.
The biggest drawback to Amazon is you do NOT own the customer. There is no legit way to contact them, send them your newsletters. You are not allowed to put anything in the shipment directing them to you. The customer can send you a message, can select from a rather short list of reasons why they are returning the goods. Usually they just choose something. So you never get the use your good customer service skills to remedy an issue… You can also thank AI for this.
And Amazon it arbitrary is selling any dispute. As a seller you are simply screwed.
Recently I had a product on Amazon, handmade Murano Glass and suddenly the photo was for an entirely different product…a computer card reader for a computer. I did not put the photo on Amazon, nor could I delete it. It simply said that because multiple vendors were selling my handmade (NOT) piece they chose the best photo (NOT). And threatened my account because they said it violated copyright laws???? Excuse me! For several weeks we went round and round. Amazon simply couldn’t resolve it.
I did! I deleted the product and closed my account for selling on Amazon. We used Amazon just as a way to get in front of new browsing customers. We always wanted them right here on our website where we can help them find what they need.
Ebay Remember when Ebay was actually a viable market place? Oh that was so last Century ;>)Now it seems to be full of imports, knock-offs who gleefully stuff the listing with terms like Murano Glass, Millefiori, Venetian when in reality it is Chinese glass or Indian Glass.
I just had an Indian supplier contact me to say they could sell me Murano Glass Beads  hahahahaha!
Don’t get me wrong, both the Chinese and the Indians have a long wonderful history of glass beads. BUT, it is NOT Murano Glass. I am pretty sure not one of them will pay the prices for Effetre Moretti Glass, the shipping, the customs duties which you must pay to have actual Murano Glass. What they probably mean (and I am giving them the benefit of the doubt) is that they use 104 COE glass????  My response to their emails is that they have a amazing culture, make things from their heredity instead of copying from the Venetians.
What’s Your Point? Now if you are wondering the point of my wanderings here….probably not anything more than me ranting and raving and getting it off my chest.
But we’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
